Guerrero, tixtleño of humble birth, was incorporated in November
1810 to the forces of the brothers who followed the general Galeana
Morelos. During the War of
Independence, Guerrero participated prominently in various feats of
arms as in the battle of Izucar and making of Oaxaca, on its merits,
Morelos revolt entrusted southern Puebla and thanks for the manufacture
of gunpowder, the casting of
artillery and, above all, the growth of their troops, Guerrero scored
high-profile victories in the region. The defeat of the main
leaders of the insurgency, Guerrero assumed the protection of the
Congress of Chilpancingo and established a guerrilla group that kept
alive the struggle for independence in the south during the most
difficult years for the insurgency. Finally, despite its
rudimentary training and thanks to its very particular political
sensitivity, Guerrero foresaw the possibility of joining the fighting
forces before the liberal triumph in Spain and promoted the alliance
with Iturbide to achieve the independence of Mexico on the Plan of
Iguala, which recognized the
independence of Mexico, the establishment of constitutional monarchy,
the equality of all Mexicans and that the Catholic religion was the
only one in Mexico.
