puts into circulation a commemorative 2 euro coin 06.
11. 2009 | Information for Public Národná
banka Slovenska (NBS) announces that on 10 November 2009 (Tuesday) it
will start to exchange the commemorative 2 euro coin issued
with the inscription „17th November - Day of the Fight for
Freedom and Democracy - 20th anniversary The
national side of the euro coin - as a symbol of democracy - shows
a stylized bell composed of a bunch of keys. The designer of
the national side of the euro coin is Pavol Károly, and the
Kremnica Mint, š.p. has minted one million of these coins. In
the event of interest the NBS will exchange valid euro banknotes and
coins for the comemorative 2 euro coins, but to a limited extent, no more
than 50 coins per one person. NBS will exchange the coins
in the Head Office cash desks in Bratislava and in sub-branches in
Nové Zámky, Trenčín, Banská Bystrica,
Žilina, Poprad, Košice and Bratislava during working hours. Each
country of the euro area can also issue -in addition to coins in
current circulation- collectors´ coins and commemorative coins in
the nominal value of EUR 2. (two euros). Commemorative coins
are valid tender in all countries of the euro area, while
collectors´ coins are valid tender only in the territory of
the member state which issued the coins. The
commemorative euro coin has the status of valid tender in the whole
euro area, i.e. it can be used in a common payment system and has to be
accepted like other euro coins. Národná banka Slovenska placed its first commemorative 2 euro coin in circulation in January 2009 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Economic and Monetary Union. The design of this commemorative coin was common to all countries of the euro area and was issued by all countries of the euro area -Unquote 5.
