Portuguese 100 and 200 Escudos 1997...By Martin Peeters, Netherlands From the Portuguese State Mint I've got a nice brochure about the 'Annual series 1997'. These series of coins, both in BU (mimtage 20,000 sets) and the Proof version (mintage 7,000 sets), include 2 Bi-metallic coins allusive to the "Maritime Fauna of the Portuguese Coast", respectively the Sea Wolf of the Desert Isles (Bi-metallic 100 Escudos) and the Dolphins of the Portuguese Coast (Bi-metallic 200 Escudos). When you want to see a picture of the Bi-metallic 100 and 200 Escudos look into the WBCC Homepage: http://www.geocities.com/RodeoDrive/7513/wbcc/wbcc.html 6. Portuguese Bi-metallic Commemorative...By Martin Peeters, Netherlands According to the Portuguese State Mint, they will issue this year a Bi-metallic commemorative medal called "Padre Antonio Vieira". It is not clear to me if this is a real Bi-metallic. Further details unknown. 7. An ancient Bi-metallic...By Martin Peeters, Netherlands In the 14th. auction cataloque (dated 3-4-5 april 1995) of auction house Laurens Schulman in the Netherlands, they showed a 1713 Silver Medal in Bronze setting, by Hamerani. Bust of Clemens XI to left. Inscription on Bronze border: * bonorvm * laborvm * gloriosvs * est * frvcivs * sap: C3 Rev. * 1713 *academia * pictor * scvlptor * et * architect * vrbis *. The diameter is 64 mm. Who know more about this ancient Bi-metallic? 8. An encased Dime..........By Martin Peeters, Netherlands In the WBCC Homepage http://www.geocities.com/RodeoDrive/7513/wbcc/wbcc.html I saw the picture of an encased Dime. According to WBCC member Cliff Anderson who provided the picture, the encased dime's "ring" is actually an aluminum casing with a solid back, so it cannot see the reverse of the dime. So Cliff guess the dime is inlaid into the casing. The casing's rim sticks out and holds a plastic cover over the coin and the white plastic outer ring with the blue lettering on it. 9. French Bi-metallic Jetons.....By Cliff Anderson, USA By coincidence I found another ancient Bi-metallic in another French catalog. This one is silver and brass that the dealer says is extremely rare. It is listed in a category called "Jetons Royaux". The obverse shows the figure of Charity nursing an infant with other children at her sides and the legend "CAMERA. GEN. REFORM. HOSP. - 1614". The reverse shows the figure Faith holding a chalice and the Host and leading the Dauphine, the future Louis XIII, dressed in a robe, toward a church on a hillside; "HAEC. TIBI. CERTA. DOMVS. - 1606" It is interesting that the two different dates, eight years apart, are on the same coin. The catalog says to see an important article on this Jeton by J. L. Desnier in the BSFN, published by Monnaie de Paris in March 1997, pages 46-47. The photo is black and white and not too clear. ---Remark of the WBCC Focal Point: More about the French Bi-metallic Jetons you can read in: WBCC Newsmail 51, item 5 WBCC Newsmail 42, item 4 WBCC Newsmail 41, item 4 10.
