Netherlands section WBCC Homepage...By Rod Sell, Australia I have added to the WBCC Homepage a new Netherlands page as there were sufficient images from the Netherlands to have its own page. 6. A (ancient) Bi-metallic story.......By Jean Verleg, Netherlands I'm collecting coins for some time. When I found coins that are difficult to identify, I stow them away in a sigar-box. Last I had some spare time, so I started to figure out the difficult coins. Just a week before I had a discussion with Martin Peeters about the Bi-metallic half-pennies and farthings of Great Britain which are mentioned in the Seaby cataloge and of course in our "The World of Bi-metallics catalogue". In the box of un-identified coins, I found a coinplate, there was nothing more to read on it, but in the center I saw a square copper plug in the tin coinplate. Remembering the discussion about the Great Britains Bi-metallics, I compared the found Bi-metallic with the photos in the Seaby catalogue, and I could establish, I found a farthing from 1684-7, in spite I could't read any letter, bust nor shield. Thanks WBCC. 7. A puzzeling Bi-metallic.......Kjetil Kvist, Norway A few weeks ago I bought a lot of coins from an old lady. Most of them was junk, but there was some nice coins among them. One of these was a danish speciedaler 1846 in VF quality, wich is underprised in the Krause-catalogues. One of the other was a strange (Bi-metallic) coin minted for Cologne (Köln) in 1730. I can not find it in the Krause catalogue covering the 18th century. The description is as following: Observe: The arms of Cologne in a circular shield held by a griffin to the left and a lion to the right. The shield is decorated by rococco-ornaments. Above the shield we see an knights helmet with three crowns above it. CIVIT COLON is the only description, one word on each side of the crowns. Egde: BIBITE CUM LETITIA rococco decorations. Reverse: SIGNUM SENATORI divides by a cup, 1730 under it. The Bi-metallic is 21mm, that is just a squeek smaller than a US nickel. The coins appears to be struck on white metal, it is not colored like silver, but i might be. In the center of the coin there is a 3mm copper plug. The plug seems to be set in before the actual minting, since it is partially struck up on the reverse. The Bi-metallic is preserved in av VF quality, the highest points are worn down affecting the copper plug on the observe. I'm sending this to the members of the WBCC to ask for help to do the following: A. Find a accurate identification of the coin face value B. Find a accurate catalogue reference C. Get it registrered in the Krause catalogue I'm supposing that it is already registrered in german standard reference works, but they are not available to me here in Norway. Even the Coin Cabinet of the University of Oslo don't have the necessary reference works. 8. Andorra Bi-metallic 20 Dinar/Euro 1997...By Martin Peeters, Netherlands In a German coinpaper I saw a picture of a Non-ringed Bi-metallic of Andorra. This 20 Dinar/Euro dated 1997 is made of Gold and Silver and is the first EURO made of those metalls. Price unknown. You can see a picture of it on the WBCC Homepage. http://www.Hlos.com.au/~rod.sell/WBCC.html It is available at: Servi D'emissions Episcopal Prat de la Crue, 96, 4-5 Andorra la Vella Andorra Phone + 376 867 280 Fax + 376 869 099 9. Current Bi-metallic pricelist.............Bill Allain, USA Just wondering if anyone has a listing of the current prices that all Bi-metallics listed on the WBCC homepage are selling for. I still have very few Bi-metallic coins. Most of my collection consists mainly of coins you have sent to me in the past. If I had a price guide to go by for Bi-metallic coins I would probably buy many more. I have problems buying Bi-metallics when I don't know how much to pay for them. I would be more than happy to put together a listing of all Bi-metallic coins with current prices if you have any information on this. I know HTML programing, and have a web site. I would love to put together a site where members could check current going prices for Bi-metallics. It could either reside on my web site or Rod's. I feel that this would further enhance the hobby of Bi-metallic coin collecting here in the United States and across the world. Please let me know how you feel about this subject. Also, I just wanted to let you know that my web site may be found at: http://www4.linknet.net/lalll/allain.html 10. Coin World article...........By Larry Friemel, WBCC Helpdesk This weeks edition of Coin World has arrived. Several interesting articles. One on Mississippi gambling tokens at the end of the paper and one on the Mexican Mint ending their Bi-metallic silver experiment. And one on the new Euro. It mentions and shows a photo of the new one Euro, as well as, the 2 Euro and a 50 Euro. It appears the Dutch Mint Master Chris van Draanen gave Coin World an interview so they have about 2 columns on the overall subject. 12. A stolen Bi-metallic........By Martin Peeters, Netherlands In the coin newspaper World Coin News issue June 1997 the following text was printed: --Quote Canada - According to a report in the April 22 to May 5 edition of Canadian Coin News, a possible unique 2$ Polar Bear error coin seens to have been stolen. The coin, a center core struck throught another blank center core, has a deep cavity on the reverse side. While being mailed between a Canadian dealer and a third-party grading service in the United States, the coin apparently disapeared. The error is very distinctive and easy to spot. --Unquote "See" you next week, Martin Peeters, Focal Point of the Worldwide Bi-metallic Collectors Club martinp@concepts.nl
