Major error by Vaduz Liechtenstein....By Martin Peeters Some weeks ago I ordered the new Leichtenstein Bi-metallic PIEFORT 40 EURO 1996. This week I got the package and was very surpriced. In the package there was not a 40 EURO Piefort as I had ordered, but a 20 EURO Bi-metallic Piefort. A day later I've got a letter from the firm and they said there was made a mistake. Instead of using the Die of the 40 Euro Bi-metallic they has used the Die of the 20 Euro !!!!!! They ask me to send the error back to them !!!! Well I don't think I will do this, because I have now a unique Bi-metallic Euro. Ofcourse I had already paid. Again 3 new members...........By WBCC Focal Point Again 3 new members to the WBCC. Hong Kong transition........By Larry Friemel WBCC Helpdesk This weeks Coin World had a very nice article by their International Editor created from material Mr. David Fletcher of the UK sent him. It is on the new coins of the Hong Kong transition to China this year. Hong Kong has produced a $10 Bi-metallic now for several years. In anticipation of the change, they several years ago went to the orcard on the coin instead of the Queen. Well for 1997, they are changing the design on the other side. A bridge will be pictured. According to the article, it is to depect the transition from the old to the new. It further states that China will allow Hong Kong to continue with it own coinage and at present that coinage is the product of the Royal British Mint which is how Mr. Fletcher came upon the information. 7. 1997 Canadian Bi-metallic 2 $...By Kyle Mutcher, Canada I've just bought a 1997 Canadian uncirculated set with the $2 coin. News in the Rec.Collecting.Coins Newsgroup..By Rod Sell, Australia The following I saw in the R.C.C Newsgroup. Tony Clayton wrote: Yesterday's Daily Telegraph contained the following item under the heading One Cent Coin Expected to Fetch £15,000 A prototype for America's first post-Colonial coinage is estimated to fetch around £15,000 when it goes on sale at Phillips in London later this month. The "silver centre cent" - a copper piece worth a quarter of a cent with a silver plug worth three-quarters of a cent - was on of four experimental coins struck in December, 1792. It was submitted, along with other prototypes, to George Washington, but a larger, more bulky model was adopted by Congrss. The coin up for auction is owned by Nigel Willimott, 60, an electrical technicianfrom Essex, who was given it in a pub. He had kept it in his coin collection, unaware of its value, for several years. He said yesterday: "I was flabbergasted when I took my modest collection for valuationand was told that I had one of the most sought-after American coins to come alongin years." Andrew Litherland, head of Phillips's coin department said: "For a coin of such importance to turn up this way is surprising." Is there not hope for us all yet Tony Clayton tony@tclayton.demon.co.uk Off the NW coast of Europe 13. Atwood-Coffee Catalogue........By Tony Chibbaro, USA Trolley tokens are a vast collecting field, with an organization of its own like the WBCC except much larger. The organization is called the American Vecturist Association and its address is PO Box 1204, Boston, MA 02104. There is a book listing all of the known transportation (trolley, bus, bridge, toll road, etc.) tokens called the Atwood-Coffee Catalogue of United States and Canadian Transportation Tokens. I have a copy of the fourth edition, compiled and printed in 1983. It lists tokens issued up to that time. I believe there is a fifth edition, either in preparation or just in print recently. It should list all known tokens up to the time of printing. If you are looking for Bi-metallic tokens, this would be the edition to purchase because it will be much more up-to-date than the 1983 edition. I am sure that the new edition can be purchased from the AVA itself, or can also be purchased from David Schenkman at PO Box 366, Bryantown, MD 20617. His price is $45.00 plus $2.75 postage for US delivery. I am not sure what he charges for overseas delivery. As far as Bi-metallic tokens are concerned, only a small percentage of the total listed in this catalogue will be Bi-metallic. The vast majority are not Bi-metallic. "See" you next week and happy Bi-metallic hunting, Martin Peeters
